A DIFFERENT KIND OF CAMPFIRE STORY
Campfire stories were a special part of my childhood in Colorado. My father passed them down to me on our camping trips, and I have always wanted to tell my own. Yet as a queer person, I couldn’t fully identify with the stories I grew up with. I needed a new kind of campfire tale. The result is I Lost Something in the Hills.
Luke is a young man haunted by his father’s disappearance. In search of answers, he returns to the campsite where his father went missing and finds a nightmare. Menaced by a dark mountain with a life of its own, Luke must face his past or risk losing everything.
Inspired by works like The Blair Witch Project and Stranger by the Lake, I Lost Something in the Hills is a cautionary tale about isolation.
The project is also in development as a feature film and novel. The short film is only part of a deeper story, one about growing up, family wounds, and above all the wonderful dread of the mountains.
